Everton reportedly have their eye on one potential transfer to complete next year.
According to a recent tweet from Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Toffees have Lille striker Jonathan David on their radar.
He said: “X News Jonathan #David: Been told that Everton was very interested in a transfer in 2023 but there was no concrete offer! No option for the 22 y/o striker anyway. He wants to join a Top12 club in [Europe]. Contract until 2025, NO release clause. Price: More than €50m! @SkySportDE“
David at Lille
After scoring 37 goals and providing 15 assists in 83 appearances for Gent, the 22-year-old joined Lille in the summer of 2020. With 107 appearances for the French club to his name across all competitions, the Canadian marksman has found the net 41 times.
Hailed as an “unreal” player by journalist Lukas Weese, David now has 78 club goals to his name in total, along with 20 in just 30 caps for his country.
This season has seen the striker score nine goals in 11 Ligue 1 appearances, in addition to racking up more shots (33) and more key passes (17) than any other player at Lille.
His overall performances in the French league have earned the centre-forward an impressive season rating of 7.52/10 from WhoScored, making him the seventh-highest rated player in the entire division.
Everton’s form could be crucial
This showcases just why Everton have an apparent interest in signing the player.
However, it not only seems that it would take a hefty transfer fee to sign David, but it would probably also need the Toffees to be in or close to the top half of the Premier League table.
If Frank Lampard’s side can break into the top half of the table by the end of the season, though, this could put them in a good position to launch a move for David and convince him to make the move to Goodison Park.
