Happy New Year, Blues.
Hull started the game very well as we started poorly, and the game all around was a bit poor. I thought we were ok in the 20 minutes or so leading up to our goal, some good movement, especially in Kevin Mirallas and Enner Valencia.
But you’re here for positive thoughts, are you? You’re here for some unbridled, cathartic fume. So, shall I?
Koeman’s team selection was a joke, a complete disgrace. He decided to play Gareth Barry and Phil Jagielka, two players far beyond their sell-by date and should be taken out back and put down. We’re not going to win with those two in the team. Strip the captaincy from Jagielka and give it to Seamus Coleman. He is a blight on the football club. Barry’s just bad at Football, nothing more, nothing less.
He decided to go with one-up-top again which doesn’t work for us at all. Lukaku got into the game a bit more this time, but we failed in midfield entirely.
And he decided to drop Funes Mori, by far the best centre-back at the club for Mr. See Above. What a shambles. Dropping Mason Holgate did him no favours either, and he dropped him for Gareth Barry of all people, a serious insult.
More fume? Sound.
Koeman’s substitutions are seriously frustrating. He took Valencia off, who was probably the best player on the pitch, for the most part tonight, for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Not questioning DCL’s introduction at all, but not for Valencia. If you have to take the best player on the pitch off to accommodate an inexperienced striker, then you probably shouldn’t be making that substitution.
Don’t get me started on the Mori sub. Unless he’s going up front, he’s staying on the bench for me.
Anyway, fume over, go back to Twitter and the like if you want, otherwise, stay a while and listen.
Ross Barkley scored and that was decent. He was alright tonight, didn’t grab the game like he should but shone at various points.
Anyway, disappointing all around. A point wasn’t really good enough here.
On to 2017.
After these ratings, though.
