Hornby set for Belgium loan – How will the forward fare?

Everton striker Fraser Hornby is set to join Belgian side KV Kortrijk on loan, according to a Football Insider exclusive.

The highly regarded forward has reportedly been a loan target of a number of Championship and Scottish Premiership clubs in recent weeks, however it appears as though the Scotland youth international is set for a move to Belgium.

Football Insider claim that an Everton source has revealed to them that the 19-year old will travel to Belgium on Wednesday ahead of a potential loan move, with Kortrijk currently in pole position.

With Hornby unlikely to play for Marco Silva’s first-team this season, the Portuguese coach and Marcel Brands are keen to see him get first-team experience elsewhere, away from David Unsworth’s Under-23 side.

Everton are confident that a deal can be concluded later this week.

David Unsworth spoke earlier this summer about his desire to see as many of his most promising starlets leave on loan as possible, and this is a good step towards that.

Hornby is one of the brighter young talents at the club, particularly as a striker with not many other players coming close to him in that position, and it’s extremely positive to see him leave for first-team minutes.

I would rather his loan had been in the Championship, with English second-flight football being an easier spyglass to judge his progress than Belgian football, but making sure he gets minutes is what is most paramount for both the club and the player.
