Guillem Balague Wants Further Action Over Everton Banner

Following the unveiling of abusive banners close to the home of Rafa Benitez, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has called for police action to be taken against some Everton fans.

A controversial and intimidating banner was unfurled near Benitez’ family home on Merseyside in a threatening remonstration against the potential appointment of the ex-Liverpool manager.

Reports from Sky Sports claim that the tactician could be announced today, with the 29th pencilled in as a provisional announcement date by Everton officials.

The incident was not the first time that offensive banners have been unveiled in a symptom of fan anger against the potential appointment.

However, many Everton fans agreed that the latest banner was a step too far, given the intimidating and personal nature of the message.

‘We know where you live’, the banner noted, before declaring ‘dont (sic) sign’.

Spanish football expert Balague issued a strongly-worded rebuttal of the disturbing message, joining a chorus of condemnation weighing in on the banner.

The BBC expert, issuing a short statement on his personal Twitter profile, claimed:

“What a disgrace.”

“Not representative of Everton fans or Liverpool people. Not the ones I know, but it is criminal and I hope the police intervene.”

Considering the threatening intent of the banner and the placement close to Benitez’ family residence, sympathy must be given to the ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid manager.

Feelings clearly run deep given his past association with Liverpool, but this development only brings the club and its fans into disrepute.

It is unclear as to whether the banner was the work of one fan or a larger group, but the morally reprehensible banner is not representative of the Everton fan community at large.
