Guendouzi could miss Everton clash after Arteta fall-out

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi could be left out of the squad to face Everton this weekend, with Telegraph Sport reporting that he has fallen out with manager Mikel Arteta.

The Frenchman was dropped from the Gunners’ squad to face Newcastle on Sunday, as Arteta sent the midfielder a clear message about his future with the London club.

The former Everton midfielder clashed with the 20-year old at training during Arsenal’s Dubai mid-season break, with Telegraph Sport claiming that the duo then clashed again back at the club’s hotel.

The France Under-21s international is now said to be facing a fight to rescue his Arsenal career, according to Mirror Sport, who claim that the fan favourite midfielder will now need to prove to Arteta that he is worth his place.

With Everton having lost their last five Premier League fixtures at the Emirates in recent seasons, having never won at Arsenal’s post-2006 ground, the Blues will likely be buoyed by any potential advantage they can get, as they look to continue the two-game winning run they established before the winter break.

Arsenal will come into the clash off the back of a confident result, with a Newcastle capitulation ensuring that the Gunners didn’t suffer from Guendouzi’s absence, beating the Magpies 4-0 in London on Sunday.

Everton meanwhile may have Andre Gomes back in contention to face Arteta’s side, which could present the club with a huge fitness boost ahead of difficult run of fixtures, that will also see the Toffees face Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next few weeks.

Described by Cesc Fabregas as having a “big future”, Everton may hope that Guendouzi doesn’t come back in just yet, as they prepare to come up against their former fan favourite in Arteta.
