Several Everton fans have once again taken to Twitter to call on Everton to hand Anthony Gordon his first-team opportunity after another strong performance last night.
We covered the story that a number of Everton fans had been clambering for the Toffees to give Gordon his chance only yesterday, but after his superb solo goal against Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy last night for the Under-23s, more fans have joined in calling on Everton to give him a game in the first-team.

Everton drew 1-1 with Gordon scoring the only goal for the away side, while the club also took home a bonus point after winning the resulting penalty shoot-out, putting them top of their group temporarily.
But it was Gordon’s strike that stood out, with the highly regarded attacker shrugging off a number of defenders before curling home past Aiden Stone in goal for the Stags.
Several Everton fans reacted to the goal on social media today, after Everton tweeted a video of the sensational strike.

It certainly seems like Gordon needs first-team football at this point, as he is showing his ability frequently at U23s level. A loan to a Football League side would have been ideal, but it also wouldn’t be the worst thing in keeping him around the first-team for a while.
Calls for him to replace Theo Walcott seem to be made more out of frustration over the England international’s performances of late than from a desire to see Gordon specifically feature, although cameos here and there wouldn’t hurt his development.
There is always a worry with the loan system where player’s eventually get stuck inside it and can’t progress beyond it. Callum Connolly fell foul to that problem, and it currently looks like Kieran Dowell will too. However, it may be the best move for the young attacker.
