Jean-Philippe Gbamin is keen on a move to Everton, with the Toffees close to agreeing a deal with Mainz for the midfielder – but would he be a perfect fit at Goodison Park?
According to Fussball Transfers, cited by Sports Witness, Everton are in active talks with the Bundesliga side and are thought to be close to finalising a deal.
Mainz are looking for a fee in the region of €35 million for the player, with the Toffees looking to bring their valuation down slightly to €30 million.

Arsenal have also been linked with the player during the current window, however, it appears as if Marco Silva’s side are in pole position to land the versatile midfielder.
The player’s agent, Bernard Collignon, has recently fuelled speculation further, by confirming that the Ivorian is keen on a move to Merseyside.
Talking to Le Parisien, cited by Sports Witness, Collignon said:
Jean-Philippe is attracted by the idea of joining Everton.
To discover the championship of England in a club of the top part of table would represent for him a very beautiful opportunity and a very good step.
A move for Gbamin appears to be a smart one. The 23-year-old appears to be a direct replacement for Idrissa Gueye, who looks set to finally join Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth £28 million.
Gbamin can also play in defence as well as midfield, something which could come in extremely handy during the course of the season.
The midfielder would bring plenty of energy and power to the Toffees side, something which needs to be added if Gueye is to depart.
And if a deal can be agreed around €30 million, Everton could well be landing a future star for a relatively cheap price in today’s market.
