Everton full-back Luke Garbutt has spoken to Phil Kirkbride of the Liverpool Echo about the “difficult start” to his loan spell at Championship side Fulham.
The young left-back signed a long-term contract at Goodison Park in the summer, but was then sent on loan in order to play regular football. He would most likely have been the first choice left-back at Craven Cottage, but after damaging ankle ligaments in a pre-season game, he’s been limited to just two starts.
Speaking to Kirkbride, he said:
The idea was to come and play games, it’s just one of those things, the injury has disrupted that.
I have just got keep going and see where it takes me.

The 22-year-old is still keen to get plenty of first-team action at Fulham, and may get the chance to do so when the club hires a new manager after sacking Kit Symons.
Symons had given Garbutt two starts after his return from injury but felt that he needed a rest, so picked James Husband in his place, and left him in the starting line-up ever since. However Husband, on loan from Middlesborough, was sent off against Birmingham last weekend and his suspension should give Garbutt the opportunity to win his place back, something which he very keen to do.
I’m just waiting to get my chance and then hopefully sustain a run in the team.
