Duncan Ferguson has revealed that it is his unbreakable bond and affection for the Everton fans that make this his club.
The iconic former Toffees striker, who after making his debut in 1994 went on to made 273 appearances for the club, is set to star in his own Testimonial against Villarreal a week on Sunday.
Now a first team coach at Goodison Park, Ferguson says he is overwhelmed by the supporters’ heart-warming messages ahead of the big day.
“It’s massive to be given this testimonial,” Ferguson told evertonfc.com.
“This Club means everything to me. To get that honour that very few players get is pretty incredible.
“I have had a fantastic relationship with the fans from day one. That continues to this day.
“When I look at my time playing for Everton and the list of highlights, the relationship I have with the fans is at the top.
“The fans have been unbelievable and I still try to spend time with them as much as I can. I enjoy trying to make them smile and keeping them happy.
“It’s a little strange being 43 and fans are still asking you for your autograph. It is really humbling and I can’t thank them enough.
“I say it over and again – they are the best fans in the world, aren’t they?”
