Several Everton fans have reacted to Sheffield United manger Chris Wilder’s claim that after the Blades, the Toffees are his second team.
Wilder has done a terrific job with Sheffield United this season, with the Blades having spent much of the season in and around the top six, despite having only just been promoted from the Championship.
Wilder has been praised by all manner of fans, pundits and fellow professionals alike this season, with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admitting last month that Wilder’s side are the ‘ones to watch’ for anyone looking to improve their side.
Speaking to Sheffield United’s One of Our Own Podcast though, Wilder admitted that he has a soft spot for another Premier League club other than United, with the 52-year old reflecting on his admiration for Everton from when he was younger.
When asked about who his favourite team other than the Blades are, without pause, Wilder said:
Everton.
When I was an apprentice at Southampton, all my family over there were Liverpool fans.
But this is quite a funny one because I watched the team [Everton] at the time when I was an apprentice at Southampton come there when they were champions two seasons on the bounce.
I couldn’t believe how together they were and what a good group they were and how that group of players played, how you’d enjoy playing for that team.
Obviously Howard managed here as well, and you knew about how they enjoyed themselves away from [the pitch] so I suppose that’s possibly one of the big reasons!
Many Everton fans were pleased by this revelation, praising the Sheffield United manager following his comments.
