Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira could’ve been a good signing for Everton, claims former Premier League midfielder and pundit Carlton Palmer.
The 25-year-old who has only featured 75 times for United since joining in 2012, was heavily linked with Everton this summer before opting to sign for Brazilian side Flamengo on a season-long loan.
The Brazilian international has gone out on several loan spells during his career with United, but has never really settled into the first team.
Despite a lack of playing time, Pereira has shown glimpses of excellent potential in England which has increased his value up to nearly £20million at points in his career, although transfermarkt.com currently value him at just £7.2m.
Some Toffee supporters were left underwhelmed when first linked with the young playmaker, but former England international Carlton Palmer believes that he could have been a different player in Merseyside.
Speaking exclusively to Read Everton on the matter, Palmer said: “Just because you sign for a club and it doesn’t go well, it doesn’t mean you’re not a good player.
“Sometimes you go to a club and you don’t perform well but that doesn’t mean you can’t go on and perform well at another club. That’s just the way it goes sometimes.
“That’s why players should think about, when they go to a club, not just the money side of it but think about how you fit into that team.”
Andreas Pereira has only scored four goals and produced five assists in a Manchester United shirt so far during his career, but is looking to turn his career around in the Brazilian Serie A.
Whether or not Everton step up their interest again when he returns is yet to be known, however, if he comes back a different player it might be worthwhile for the Toffees to keep an eye out for him in the future.
