Everton are worried Ross Barkley will leave his boyhood club if they don’t sack Roberto Martinez, according to the Bleacher Report.
The Everton board are eager to tie the 22-year-old attacker to a new long-term contract as his current deal runs out in 2018.
But Barkley wants to know the Toffees’ ambitions and which direction the club is going in before he discusses his future.
Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly monitoring the situation involving the Wavertree-born midfielder, who has 12 goals and 10 assists in 44 appearances this season.

The Everton board are reportedly having a meeting to discuss the future of Roberto Martinez today, as his side underperformed and underachieved for the second season running.
Everton currently lie in 11th with 41 points and can only finish as high as ninth in the league this season.
Martinez’s men are without a win in seven and have only won four of their last 21 league games.
