Everton were one of several clubs to have registered an interest in Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino in the January transfer window, according to Inter Live.
Inter Live’s report (translated by Sport Witness) claims that the Toffees went the furthest in their attempts to land the Uruguayan, submitting an offer of around €12million, which was promptly rejected by the Nerazzurri.
West Ham and Tottenham were also said to be interested in the 28-year old, although Inter Live don’t detail whether either of those clubs made a formal offer.
The report does suggest that although Vecino was reintroduced into Antonio Conte’s squad, with whom relations aren’t said to be idyllic, it could be a simple case of his sale having been delayed until the summer.
Lazio, Napoli and Milan are all said to be considering making a move for the Uruguayan in the summer, and while Everton’s interest isn’t specifically mentioned, it wouldn’t be surprising to see links crop up soon.

Everton were seemingl desperate to strengthen their midfield options in the January transfer window due to the injuries sustained by both JP Gbamin and Andre Gomes. However, with a full summer window to work in, I think Everton could do better than Vecino in the summer.
Many Everton fans had been left underwhelmed by the prospect of signing Vecino in January anyway, so if the Toffees don’t return with interest, or they focus on better targets, it looks like a number of supporters won’t be fazed.
With the likes of Napoli duo Allan and Piotr Zielinski being linked recently, Everton should turn their focus to more prestigious and highly regarded players like these if they wish to strengthen in that department in the summer.
