A lot has changed since the last time we played West Brom, but the biggest thing now is that they are a legitimate threat to a 7th placed finish, and therefore, a possible European adventure. They’ve emerged as a surprise ‘Best of the Rest’ (Assuming that the ‘Best’ here means the top 7 rather than the media’s darling Top Six) over teams like Southampton, West Ham and Leicester.
Tony Pulis has always been questioned on his ability to get to that next level, being European football, with his squads, regularly being wholeheartedly mid-table at Stoke, a solid but uninspiring team at Palace for his short stint there, and before this season, the same was felt at West Brom. However some solid signings and appropriately frustrating tactics have forced his team into contention.
They, like us, suffered a defeat at the weekend after a good run of games, so both sides will be looking to ensure that slip doesn’t become a fall. We however have the clear upper hand, being nearly perfect at home this season.
Tottenham was always going to be a hard game, it was always likely to be a loss. And it was, although the scoreline reflected an Everton that was not entirely true. In fact, it was a major misrepresentation. We were awful, somehow scored two, and we somehow only conceded 3.
It wasn’t a game due a watch again any time soon.
We’ll probably win this one though. It’ll be more fun.
