The Toffees host Watford tonight at Goodison Park in the 4th round of the League Cup, with a place in the quarter-finals of the competition up for grabs.
Everton have failed to ever clinch the League Cup trophy in the entirety of their 141-Year history, reaching the final just twice and losing twice. However, Marco Silva’s men have a chance to change that this season and with fan morale already at a low point based on recent performances, they need to show some sort of fighting passion in order to keep fan’s hopes alive.
This specific tie has only ever been played once in League Cup history, way back in the year of 1991, when every round in the competition required two legs in order to be decided. Everton won both and will be looking for a similar triumph this evening.
Recent performances have led to many fans questioning Marco Silva’s tenure at the club. With many wanting him gone already, he will need to turn-around this poor run of form in order to put fan’s minds at ease.
VAR will also play a part in today’s game which, if called into play, will no doubt receive yet more criticism after the vacuous decision down at Brighton Saturday.
Everton will miss Bernard this evening, due to him picking up an injury last weekend, while Yerry Mina could make his return. JP Gbamin remains on the sidelines.
For Watford, the Hornets will be without Troy Deeney, Isaac Success, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck for this fixture.
Will Everton beat Quique Sanchez Flores’ side this evening?
