By extension of being an Evertonian, we are all Manchester City fans. Whether you like it or not, it’s true. I support Manchester City for 36 gameweeks of the year in order to stop the tricky Reds from winning it all.
However, playing City at Goodison Park brings back happier memories. The best win of my lifetime for sure, where we ran all over Guardiola’s City to give him the biggest defeat of his managerial career. When Ronald Koeman was still the man to take us forward. When Romelu Lukaku was at the absolute peak of his power. Ademola Lookman was still an incredible prospect and Tom Davies was truly a global star in the making.
Now, how far all of those aforementioned careers’ have fallen is indicative of how the club has joined them in free-fall. Even now, in the days where it looks like things could be getting better, we’re going to be around the doldrums of England’s top flight come Christmas, with uncertainty over both the manager and the playing squad.
I suppose on a somewhat happier note, and I can smell the wrath of those coming at me with keyboards flailing already, I don’t really mind what happens here. I desperately want the Blues to turn the Lighter Blues over, but if it isn’t to be, then I’m fine with Liverpool gaining no ground in the title race.
So before you head over to my Twitter to pollute my timeline with very un-Christian language, here’s my team selection.
