Everton tell Salomon Rondon he can leave in January

Everton recently saw Allan depart the Merseyside club as he joined Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

It now appears that the Toffees are looking to offload another one of their squad members during the upcoming January transfer window.

What’s the news?

According to a report from Football Insider, Everton have told Salomon Rondon that he is free to find a new club in January.

The Venezuelan had held talks with Adana Demirspor towards the end of the summer transfer window but could not agree a move to the Turkish club prior to the deadline.

Having only played five minutes of Premier League action after making his first start of the campaign against Nottingham Forest in August, it’s safe to say that he is not particularly high in Frank Lampard’s pecking order, which makes it easy to see why the club are reportedly looking to see him leave.

It’s in everyone’s best interests

Everton signed the striker on a free transfer from Chinese side Dalian Professional in the summer of 2021. Since then, the 33-year-old has made 28 appearances for the Goodison Park outfit but has only found the net on three occasions.

With 20 league appearances to his name last season, Rondon’s performances ultimately earned him a rather uninspiring overall rating of 6.19/10 from WhoScored, making him one of the lowest-rated Everton players to start more than one game.

This backs up why talkSPORT pundit and former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor said that the Venezuelan is “not good enough” to play for the Toffees.

Bearing in mind how Lampard now has Neal Maupay and Dominic Calvert-Lewin at his disposal at centre-forward, it’s hard to see how Rondon would get much game-time if that duo can stay fit and firing for the rest of the campaign.

Overall, it feels to us that it would be in everyone’s best interests if the £20k-per-week Venezuela striker were to leave Goodison Park in January and join a club where he’d be able to play regularly.
