Wayne Rooney will fly to Washington and have a medical with D.C. United on Thursday, reports the Washington Post.
Rooney currently plays for boyhood club Everton but is expected to leave after falling out of favour, with his career winding down.
A deal in principle was previously agreed between D.C. United and Everton, but a source says the deal is not yet done:
It’s the next step in the process. By no means is it a done deal, but it’s a step in the right direction.
The 32-year-old scored 11 goals in 40 appearances for the Toffees last season and is both England and Manchester United’s all-time top scorer, so moving to the MLS would represent a major coup for the league.

D.C. United currently sit bottom in the Eastern Conference of the MLS with just eight points from nine games and having not made the MLS Cup Playoffs for two years.
The trip for Rooney will see him in the American capital for no more than 48 hours, as he is currently on a family holiday in Barbados.
