Everton should be having nightmares over Joao Pedro transfer miss

Everton had a rather busy previous summer transfer window in regards to the number of deals that took place involving the Merseyside club.

In terms of the incoming transfer deals Everton made, a lot of them involved seeing the Toffees sign players from some of their fellow English teams.

Figures such as Conor Coady, James Tarkowski and James Garner all came from other English clubs.

However, one player that the Merseyside club were linked with a £30m move for that they should now be regretting not signing is Watford attacker Joao Pedro.

In 83 appearances for the Hornets, the 21-year-old has found the net 15 times and delivered seven assists along the way.

With nine appearances to his name this season in the Championship, the Brazilian has two goals and two assists under his belt.

In addition to this, his overall performances have earned him an early season rating of 7.45/10 from WhoScored, making him the highest-rated player at Watford.

This rating also makes him the fourth-highest rated player in the entire division, which suggests he’s too good to be playing at a club in the Championship and could be more suited to the top flight.

Pedro also has the highest average of shots (2) and key passes per game (2) at the club, showing how much of a key player he is and what he would have been able to offer Frank Lampard’s side.

Hailed as a “special talent” by Keith Andrews, Pedro is now proving why Kevin Thelwell should have done more to secure his signature during the summer and why he should now be having nightmares over not doing so.

Moving forward, if the Watford star has a successful season with more goals and assists under his belt, Everton should definitely consider reigniting their interest in him when the next summer transfer window opens.

However, the fact that the attacker recently signed a new long-term contract at Vicarage Road means that it could be even more difficult, or more expensive, for Everton to sign him.
