Everton’s chances of signing Virgil van Dijk may have increased after the Southampton defender signed for Wasserman Group, the same agency who represent Ronald Koeman.
Koeman signed Van Dijk last season and is interested in working with the Dutch defender again, while sources from the Netherlands believe that Manchester United and Liverpool are keeping close tabs on him. The Mirror report that the centre-back’s switch to the Wasserman Group may give Everton the upper hand in the race for his signature.
Van Dijk arrived at Southampton last season for a fee of £11.5m, signing a six-year contract until 2021, and his impressive performances earned him a one-year contract extension.

This season, Van Dijk has produced similar performances, if not better than last season. He has appeared in 21 games for the Saints and has been instrumental in his side’s impressive defensive record.
Southampton have been pretty inconsistent under Claude Puel this season, both domestically and in Europe, but the towering defender is still a standout performer in most matches.
Now there are rumours about his long-term future at Southampton and Everton, along with a host of other clubs, are certainly interested in the former Celtic defender’s services.
Due to high interest, the player’s good performances and long contract, it would cost Everton an incredible amount of money to prise the Dutchman away from the south coast.
