Everton couldn’t finish off their season in style yesterday as they slumped to yet another away defeat, this time at the hands of Arsenal.
The Toffees had little to play for but the travelling fans, having already secured Europa League football ahead of next season, and Arsenal finishing in fifth place means that they’ll be joining them.
It was a game full of controversy and after just eight minutes, the hosts were ahead. Hector Bellerin made it 1-0 from close range not long before Gunners captain Laurent Koscielny was given his marching orders for an extremely late lunge.
Everton couldn’t capitalise on this though and went two down just before the half-hour mark, with Alexis Sanchez firing home.
The visitors did equalise in the second half through the ever-dangerous Romelu Lukaku, but the win for Arsenal was sealed by Aaron Ramsey’s excellent goal in stoppage time.
