Everton have been offered the chance to sign RP Leipzig midfielder Emil Forsberg, and the 28-year could be just what the club need as they prepare to re-enter the Europa League.
Despite having dropped into the relegation zone as recently as December, the Toffees now have their sights firmly set on returning to the continental stage, having climbed within touching distance of the top six.
Following Manchester City’s Champions League ban, the Blues could even hope to see eighth place offer European football, further increasing the chance that Everton fans could welcome the return of Thursday night fixtures next season.
Ahead of that possibility, SportBild, as translated by Sport Witness, claim that Leipzig have offered Everton the chance to sign versatile attacker Forsberg for just €20million, while Leicester, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United have been presented with similar offers.
Having scored three times in seven Champions League appearances this season, Forsberg has demonstrated his capability on the European stage, and Everton could look to utilise that experience as they pursue continental success themselves.
Having primarily played on the left wing for Die Rotten Bullen this season, the Sweden international has also occupied an attacking midfield position for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
While Forsberg could struggle to play on the left for Everton, with Bernard and Alex Iwobi already jostling for a starting berth, Ancelotti could make space for a midfield role for the 28-year old.
The Athletic report that Ancelotti wants to sign a midfielder of his own this summer, while Marcel Brands could look to swing the axe on high earning players already in that position, such as Morgan Schneiderlin and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
If Everton want to sign European pedigree in the summer to boost their chances of going far in Europe, as well as competing in the Premier League, then Forsberg could be someone worth exploring for as low a fee as €20million.
