Man Utd see Iliman Ndiaye as a genuine target this summer, but any move remains stalled while the club works out what to do with Marcus Rashford, according to Fabrizio Romano.
“Another player appreciated by Man Utd is Iliman Ndiaye at Everton,” Romano said. “He is another player they like, but they are not progressing because of the Rashford situation.”
United’s stance is that they won’t move for a marquee winger unless Rashford leaves first, and with Barcelona having passed on their option to buy him permanently, Rashford now looks set to report for pre-season at Old Trafford regardless.
Interest in Ndiaye extends well beyond United. Romano confirmed clubs from abroad have made contact, and Aston Villa held conversations of their own a few weeks ago.
But he was equally clear on where Everton stand: “It’s important to remember that Ndiaye would be really expensive. He’s a really important player, for Everton he’s a crucial, crucial player.”
That’s the key line for Everton supporters. Ndiaye’s existing contract stand-off with the club, still unresolved as he returns from Senegal’s World Cup exit, already has Man City, Man Utd and Tottenham interest attached to it.
United’s admiration doesn’t change Everton’s position — if anything, Romano’s update reinforces just how highly the club rate him, and how difficult any departure would be to engineer even before United sort out their own situation up front.
