Everton have met the £5.8million release clause of Galatasaray playmaker Wesley Sneijder, according to reports in Turkey.
The club had been linked with a move for the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan star previously in the week, while new reports suggest that the Toffee’s hierarchy have taken their interest a step further.

Sneijder currently plies his trade in Turkey after leaving Inter Milan in January 2013. Since then, the Dutch star has scored an impressive 40 goals and chipped in with 27 assists. With his form not slowing down with age, both Everton and Manchester United were registered with an interest in the player, with Jose Mourinho hoping for a reunion after managing Sneijder at Inter Milan.
New Blues boss Ronald Koeman also has prior experience of Sneijder, with Koeman knowing the playmaker well from his days at Ajax.
Should the Blues sign the midfielder, it would represent the direction the club are moving in with such a prolific name in world football choosing the club over other options.
