Everton’s Colombian attacker James Rodriguez is facing a battle to regain fitness ahead of the Toffee’s weekend clash with Newcastle after suffering the most unusual of injuries.
After a nasty clash with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk in the Merseyside derby, James Rodriguez has suffered an injury to one of his testicles.
No footballer wishes to see their gentlemanly regions heavily impacted, though Rodriguez has suffered just that – and has been visibly discomforted as a result
The former Real Madrid star had previously been in fine form against the Reds; James scored three goals and set up three more for the Toffees before suffering the bizarre injury in the fiercely-contested 2-2 stalemate with Liverpool on October 17.
According to Marca, The Colombian almost missed Everton’s trip to Southampton on Sunday due to the inflammation that he still has in his testicle and was a doubt until the last minute, before eventually playing the full game.
Although James did feature for the entirety of the game, he was in obvious discomfort and ‘did not look his usual self’ in Marca’s view, likely as a consequence of the shunt he received by van Dijk.
The Colombian is now likely to undergo a small period of convalescence as he looks to eliminate the understandably uncomfortable inflammatory injury.
James recently tweeted a picture of himself at home using a ‘NormaTec recovery machine’ designed to aid in muscle recovery – and to reduce inflammation.

Beyond the unavoidable novelty of the situation, this could be worse news than first thought for Everton fans.
Rodriguez has been a creative focal point for the Toffees this season, and any prolonged spell out with injury could prove to be catastrophic for the short-term future in terms of results for Ancelotti’s side.
It is unclear as to whether he will feature or not against Newcastle.
