West Ham are said to be leading the race for Roma midfielder and Everton target Maxime Gonalons, but would the Frenchman be worth the risk for the Toffees?
According to Sport Witness via Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hammers are the more willing of the two sides to pursue a move for the Roma man, though Everton are still keen on the midfielder.
But would Gonalons be worth the risk for the Toffees?
The Frenchman has had a number of injury problems since his move to Roma in 2017, with his spell on loan with Sevilla last campaign hampered by three separate spells on the sidelines, resulting in him making just 13 appearances in all competitions.

Gonalons also struggled with a calf problem the season before, limiting his appearances to 23 for Roma in all competitions, and the 30-year-old appears to be becoming increasingly more injury prone as his career goes on.
The France international was a consistent figure for Lyon prior to his move to Roma, however, making 334 appearances in all competitions for the French side, and his experience could prove useful.
Gonalons would certainly be an asset for Marco Silva should he avoid the injury problems that have hindered his last two campaign’s, but it would also be a big gamble for Everton and there may be better alternatives available for the Toffees.
