Everton are reportedly interested in young Rochdale defender Luke Matheson but will face competition from both Liverpool and Chelsea.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the Premier League trio are all keeping tabs on his development after impressing for the Football League outfit during the week.
Keith Hill brought the youngster on in the 13th minute of Rochdale’s Checkatrade Trophy clash with Bury, which his side won 2-1.
Matheson, who only started Year 11 at school on the morning of the game, went on to put in a Man of the Match performance and has since dominated the headlines given his young age.
A performance of such quality for someone so young was never likely to be missed by some of the Premier League’s big boys.
Everton will be hoping that their recent record of recruiting younger players will place them in a strong position in the race to sign Matheson, should the youngster look to move on from the League One side.
