The Blues are close to agreeing a deal to sign free agent Bernard and they are also hoping to add Barcelona’s Yerry Mina to their squad.
However, they are also looking to bring in Gomes, the player who was reportedly offered to Manchester United as part of a cash-plus-player deal to sign Paul Pogba, an offer which United rejected immediately.
One potential issue is that Gomes is injured after hurting his hamstring in pre-season, although the Blues will be aware of that already.
West Ham were said to be keen on a move for Gomes too, but nothing substantial has come from that reported interest so far.
