Everton made a last ditch attempt to sign Werder Bremen’s Thomas Delaney for £8m but their bid was rejected, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Toffees had reportedly lodged £5.5m bid earlier in the window but that was swiftly rejected. The club then returned with their latest offer but Bremen stood strong and rejected the improved deal.
Any chance of signing Delaney this season has now been ruled out, having played for FC Copenhagen already this season and Bremen handed him his debut at the weekend.
A player is not allowed to play for more than two clubs in one season, meaning he would be unable to feature for Everton this season, effectively ruling out any transfer this season.
Everton may now look to pursue other targets having already signed Morgan Schneiderlin and Ademola Lookman, although it has all gone very quiet on the transfer front.
The Blues play Stoke City in their next game as they look to make a last-ditch attempt to break the top six.
