It appears as though Rafa Benitez is already making preparations to make his stamp on this Everton squad.
The Toffees have already been linked with a move for PSV right-back Denzel Dumfries this summer.
A move for the Dutchman is being viewed as the potential replacement for the ageing Seamus Coleman.
However, Benitez wants to make further additions to his defensive options if reports are accurate.
According to Fichajes, via Sports Mole, the Spaniard has asked the Toffees to sign Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet.
The Frenchman joined the Catalan club in 2018 from fellow La Liga side Sevilla for just over £32million.
Over the last three years, Lenglet has become a regular in the club’s defence but their financial trouble is catching up to them.
It has been reported that Barcelona are in an astronomical amount of debt, meaning players will likely be sold.
The club’s wage bill has contributed largely to this debt, leaving them unable to register new players.
With that comes the perfect opportunity for clubs such as Everton to capitalise on Barcelona’s abundance of talent.
Lenglet could be a perfect addition to the club’s defensive options given his age and talent.
At just 26-years-old, Lenglet could be a player for the long haul alongside the likes of Ben Godfrey.
With a current market value of £22.5million, the Toffees could secure him at a cut price compared to what Barcelona paid.
It is clear that Benitez has exciting plans for the club given the calibre of players he is targetting.
Hopefully, this will be just the push the club needs to progress into the top-four spots of the Premier League.
