Tuttomercatoweb are reporting today that Everton are interested in Empoli midfielder Riccardo Saponara.
The reports say that Everton scouts have been observing the Italian and the Toffees are plotting a January move.
They will, however, be facing heavy competition as Merseyside rivals Liverpool are also believed to want the midfielder. Not only do they have The Reds to compete with, but Italian giants Juventus have also expressed an interest in purchasing the player.
Napoli made approaches for him in the summer, however whether or not they remain interested is unknown.
Saponara rejoined Empoli in January of this year from AC Milan, with Empoli having sold him to Milan two years previously. Parma used to co-own him but Milan purchased their half for €1m as Parma began to descend into bankruptcy.
The 23-year-old has four goals in nine Serie A appearances so far this season, and an equal number of assists.
