Everton in battle to sign Mainz midfielder Eyibil – what would he bring?

Everton are thought to be battling Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the race to land Mainz starlet Erkan Eyibil – but what would he bring to Goodison Park?

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, cited by Sports Witness, the Toffees are hoping to land the teenager on a cut-price fee due to the teenager’s contract situation.

Fellow Premier League sides West Ham and Aston Villa have both been heavily linked with a move for the 18-year-old in recent months, with the player expected to leave the Bundesliga side this summer.

The German has been labelled as the next Mesut Ozil by many, but what would he bring to Merseyside if he decided to join the Toffees?

Eyibil is a natural attacking midfielder and scored 18 times in the Under 19 Bundesliga campaign last year.

As well as having a real eye for goal, the left-footed playmaker has also caused havoc for young midfielders and defenders in a deeper position.

Eyibil regularly picks the ball up in the gaps and uses his excellent passing range to create numerous chances for teammates.

It remains to be seen as to whether or not the youngster is ready for senior football for the upcoming season, however, if Everton secure Eyibil’s services before the window shuts, they may have found themselves a star number 10 for the foreseeable future.
