Many Everton fans show gratitude after James Rodriguez goal

Everton’s social media team and many fans alike were united in their reflective praise on the shrewd acquisition of former Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez.

The Colombian captured the limelight in last night’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City with a sensational solo goal which ensured the Toffees started on the front foot. The Foxes eventually equalised with a driven shot from Youri Tielemans, but Rodriguez oozed panache and technical brilliance at varying points throughout the game.

Everton’s official Twitter channel subsequently put out a tweet which issued a subtle response to Rodriguez’ critics who may have felt that the 29-year-old lacked the acumen to ‘cut it’ in the Premier League.

Highlighting his creative record, the club issued a punchy statement designed to silence any doubts that the Colombian would struggle in English football.

Their tweet read: ‘The secret’s out. James Rodriguez can cut it in English football after all’, accompanied by a sardonic winking emoji.

The tweet then rattled off a number of key statistics – claiming that Rodriguez has featured in ‘15.5’ games, Everton’s Twitter admins let the record of four goals and seven assists in less than 16 games speak for itself.

These Everton fans joined in on the celebratory mood over Rodriguez, chipping in with triumphant tweets of their own…
