Andre Gomes will likely miss Everton’s Premier League tie with Manchester City on Saturday, with the club fearing he could be out for a while.
The Portugal international has missed the Toffees’ last two Premier League fixtures against Bournemouth and Sheffield United through a rib injury, and many fans had hoped he would be available to face the reigning champions.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton will leave it late to give Gomes every chance to be fit enough to feature this weekend, although it looks unlikely.

Having assessed Gomes’ condition on a day-to-day basis, the club are also fearful that the £22million summer signing could spent more time on the sidelines than initially anticipated.
Expectations are that Marco Silva could be without Gomes until at least mid-October.
Several Everton fans reacted negatively to this news on social media, with many desperate to see the club’s smooth operator come back into the line-up.

If true, this is a real shame. Andre Gomes hasn’t really had the opportunity to get a solid run so far this season, and I think his presence would drastically improve the way Everton play.
While Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin both offer something to the club, neither of them have the ability and skillset to adequately replace Gomes in midfield, and the sooner Gomes returns the better.
Everton’s chances of beating Manchester City this weekend are remarkably slim in all fairness, so Gomes’ absence against them isn’t the worst thing in the world. But if he is to remain out for the next three to four weeks, that could be a big issue for the club.
