One Everton fan has shone the spotlight on a stunning 2017 comeback against Watford on social media following a viral thread circulating among football fans on Twitter.
Twitter user @LFCHadouken took to the platform to challenge fans to ‘name an obscure PL game that was absolutely incredible yet nobody talks about’, with one Everton fan choosing to opt for the Toffees’ 3-2 win over Watford in 2017.
Twitter: This game really had it all. Unsworth’s first win as manager, comeback from 2 down, Baines penalty winner in injury… https://t.co/QP0HqHnU2k (@sayantan_01)
The game marked an emphatic turnaround from 2-0 down in a turbulent period of upheaval in recent Everton history.
David Unsworth was in charge of the first team in a caretaker capacity, following the sacking of now-Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman in October 2017.
Sam Allardyce would eventually take charge in November, but under-23s boss Unsworth would take the reigns temporarily for just over a month late in 2017.
Under Unsworth prior to the 3-2 win, the interim boss had seen two defeats and a cup exit to his name as the club languished in the bottom three.
Having found themselves 2-0 down well into the second half – one that lasted a staggering 58 minutes – fans would be forgiven for feeling downbeat.
Goals from current Evertonian Richarlison and a second-half strike from Christian Kabasele pegged Everton back, but a swift response from Oumar Niasse gave the club a fighting chance.
In a stunning finale, Everton scored from the Toffees’ first corner of the game with Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed home to equalise.
Left-back Leighton Baines then scored the winner in dramatic fashion from the penalty spot after Jose Holebas brought down Aaron Lennon.

In a particularly gloomy period for fans, the throwback from user @sayantan_01 is a reminder of the club’s bouncebackability.
The game surely sticks in the minds of many fans and marked a poignant moment of resilience sure to bring smiles to the faces of ardent Toffees.
