Everton were rather active during the previous summer transfer window in terms of the number of players they were able to bring to Goodison Park.
One figure that the Toffees were linked with that we feel would’ve been a disastrous signing for the club is Adnan Januzaj.
After making 167 appearances for Real Sociedad where he scored 23 goals and delivered 21 assists, the 27-year-old joined fellow Spanish club, Sevilla, on a free transfer over the summer, putting to bed any chance of him making a move to Merseyside.
Things have not been particularly positive for the Belgian so far this season as he has yet to make a league appearance for his new side and has only made two substitute appearances in the Champions League.
This suggests that he has not been able to cement himself as an important figure for the team yet.
His final season at Sociedad also makes it a wonder why the Toffees were reportedly keen on signing him as the winger only saw 13 of his 40 attempts at goal in La Liga be on target.
In addition to that, Januzaj also ended the campaign with the lowest percentage of completed passes (64.9%) than any outfield player at the club, showing how careless he is on the ball.
His overall performances in La Liga last season earned the attacker a rather underwhelming rating of 6.57/10 from WhoScored, which would have put 15 Everton players above him by the same metric.
Having had a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund back in 2015 described as a “nightmare” by journalist Jack Gaughan, this is what we feel a move to Goodison Park would have been.
With all of that in mind, it’s safe to say that Kevin Thelwell dodged a bullet by not securing a summer deal for the winger, as he has shown that he wouldn’t have been a useful addition to Frank Lampard’s side.
