Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori has revealed that he was keen to leave the club in the January transfer window.
Speaking to Argentine media outlet TyC Sports, as covered in a report from the Liverpool Echo, the towering defender admitted that he tried to return to his homeland of Argentina in the mid-season window.
I wanted to go back to River to get up to pace and get to the World Cup well, so I told my manager, but it was difficult, so it’s over and everything is fine.
Funes Mori was intent on leaving Everton as he went in search of regular first-team football ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

It’s stated that he was determined to secure a move to River Plate on a temporary basis in order to show Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli his qualities with the tournament in mind.
The 27-year-old has been nursing a long-term knee injury since last March but has featured regularly for Everton’s Under-23 side. He has since come through these outings unscathed and is close to making his full return.
Funes Mori will be determined to force his way into Sam Allardyce’s plans ahead of the final seven Premier League games this season.
