Everton target Edin Dzeko set to leave Roma this summer

Recent developments at AS Roma may have handed Everton confirmation of a boost to their summer transfer plans in their pursuit of Edin Dzeko.

According to Correire dello Sport, a rift between the Roma striker and his manager Paulo Fonseca has been addressed and healed in a ‘truce’ – but the 34-year-old will still leave the Stadio Olimpico in the summer.

A direct intervention from Roma’s general manager appears to have eased tensions between the player and Fonseca, with those tensions previously seeing Dzeko training alone at one point. The Bosnia international remains stripped of the captaincy but appears to have been re-integrated into Roma’s plans, albeit in the short term.

Correire dello Sport also detailed how Dzeko is instead ‘destined to leave in any case in June’, even though his contract expires in June 2022 as opposed to this summer. He reportedly earns €7.5m (£6.62m) per annum, and it appears as though Roma are keen to cash in before he leaves for free.

With Dzeko valued at £7.2m by Transfermark, Everton could be acquiring a bargain striker to add experience to existing options.

The Bosnian international has been a mainstay for Roma during his time in the Eternal City and is showing no signs of slowing down, even at 34 years of age. Dzeko has already managed seven goals in 15 Serie A games this season and has 114 goals in 242 games for the Giallorossi.

The experienced marksman won the FA Cup and two Premier League titles with Manchester City and will be a familiar face to fans of English football.

However, with Josh King recently acquired on a six-month deal, the Toffees may wish to look at extending his contract first before sanctioning any move for Dzeko.
