Everton could be priced out of Gleison Bremer deal

Everton are still keeping tabs on long-term defensive target Gleison Bremer of Torino, according to reports from Toro News [via Sport Witness].

The Merseysiders are joined by Premier League duo West Ham and Fulham in vying for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Previous reports in Italy claimed that the Toffees were gearing up to go toe-to-toe with arch-rivals Liverpool in order to secure the centre-back’s services, and the latest reports also touched on further interest from the Reds.

Bremer, whose current deal expires in 2023, is valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt.

Ordinarily, he would represent an available and affordable option, but the report from Toro News added that Torino may capitalise on a run of good form in both an offensive and defensive capacity in order to thrash out new terms with the defender.

The Serie A club is considering a new deal which would keep the player in Turin until well beyond 2023, duly staving off strong Premier League interest in the player.

He has scored twice in three games, securing victory and a clean sheet for Torino after his match-winning performance in a 1-0 win over Cagliari at the weekend.

A contract extension with the explicit objective of staving off suitors would be a blow for the Toffees.

Everton simply cannot afford to pursue the risk of exciting targets at malignly extortionate expense, risking long-run policy failure in the process.

Next summer could be a now-or-never moment if the club is serious about their reported interest in the defender.
