Everton consider rivalling Man United for Dembele – should they bid for him?

Everton are interested in making a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, according to reports.

The Toffees are likely to consider new forward options in the January transfer window after the club’s goal return has been less than promising in the opening couple of months of the new season.

Currently in the bottom three, the Blues need more firepower, and Dembele appears to be a man who has come onto their radar.

According to Football Insider, Everton could rival Manchester United for the former Fulham and Celtic man’s signature.

The 23-year old is rated at around £40million by the Ligue 1 side, with the forward having scored 20 times in 37 league appearances since returning to his native France from Glasgow in 2018.

Dembele has already scored six goals in eight league appearances this season, and with Moise Kean having not hit the ground running at Goodison Park, Silva could see him as the man to improve Everton’s situation.

Football Insider also claim that Everton watched Lyon face Saint-Etienne, and the club are also confident that they can prise Dembele away from France.

I haven’t watched an awful lot of Dembele since he left Celtic, but by all accounts he has got off to a flying start in France. He is still very young, he is quick and dynamic and he has a great eye for goal.

My one concern would be that due to his age, he doesn’t turn 24 until July, Everton would be left with a group of very young forwards. Cenk Tosun looks to be on the way out, which would leave the club with just Dominic Calvert-Lewin (22) and Moise Kean (19).

There is a significant lack of experience in that department at that point, which could be no problem, but equally it could be an issue. I like Dembele and I think he would be a good signing, and I wouldn’t use the age problem as a reason not to sign him, I just think it is an important point worth noting.
