Everton have extensively been linked with a move for Lazio forward Joaquin Correa this summer.
The Argentinian has been a fantastic player for the Serie A side, hence the interest from the Toffees.
It had previously been reported that the Blues were leading the race to sign the £27million-rated striker.
However, an update from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has dealt the Toffees a big blow in their pursuit.
According to the Italian, Correa is open to leaving Lazio this summer but wants to stay in Italy.
Not only that, but Romano also states that there is nothing advanced between Lazio and Everton right now…
It comes across as a huge blow for the club, with them not in the desired position to secure a deal for Correa.
As well as this, his own desire to stay in Italy deals a big issue for Everton in trying to get a deal over the line.
The bad news keeps coming, with there also being the possibility of a move to current Italian champions Inter Milan.
Lazio director Igli Tare does state that it is ‘up to Inter now’ in regards to a possible transfer for Correa.
It is a shame for the Blues, as his versatility and ability would have suited Benitez and the current crop of attackers.
The likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison could have benefited from another player with similar abilities.
Correa being able to play centrally as well as out wide is an attribute that would have given the Toffees a number of attacking options.
However, as things now stand, a move for Correa is unlikely given his personal demands to remain in Italy.
