Everton had to settle for a draw when Spurs came to Goodison on Sunday afternoon, with the London side providing a difficult test for the Blues.
Aaron Lennon gave the Merseysiders a 22nd-minute lead after a great ball from Tom Cleverley picked out Romelu Lukaku who headed down for Lennon, who took it on the half-volley and put it into the far corner of Hugo Lloris’ net.
Spurs replied late in the first half when Toby Alderweireld played a brilliant pass from his own half in behind the Everton defence and found Dele Alli, who chested the ball into touch and placed it into the bottom corner of Tim Howard’s net.
Everton face Manchester City next, as they hope to get a first leg lead in their Capital One Cup semi-final.
