Everton 1-0 Cardiff – Everton Player Ratings

I can’t wait to very quickly forget that game ever happened.

It was a completely typical performance that would have resulted in a draw or even a loss last campaign, but this season’s Blues are not the same side, and a great defensive performance coupled with a masterclass from a certain André Gomes gave us the three points and made it a good weekend.

It’s not going to be one that I’ll be looking for come the end of season review montages and DVDs but it’s three points and, for now, moves us into an automatic Europa League position. That was something none of us were realistically thinking about after a historically depressing showing in 17-18, so to even be contending (Never mind trending towards) a top-six position is beyond impressive from Marco Silva.

But if you’ve noticed that I haven’t been talking too much about the game, that’s because there isn’t really much to say beyond that we were not at our best and won. That’s something we must continue to do.

Oh but I will say one thing, and that whoever today’s referee was will almost certainly be doing Carlisle v Lincoln City next week.
