Dominic Calvert-Lewin Continues Scoring Form as England Defeat Ireland

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was on the scoring trail again on Thursday night after converting a penalty for England in the Three Lions’ friendly clash with the Republic of Ireland.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, operating in a more offensively-free left wing-back role, was fouled in the box following a marauding run, having suffered a hefty challenge from Ireland’s Cyrus Christie.

The in-form Evertonian then stepped up and showed impressive composure as he fired the ball into the top corner of the net from the penalty spot.

The 23-year-old scored his second goal in three appearances for the Three Lions, rounding off an impressive display with another goal. Although he was substituted for Tammy Abraham in the 63rd minute, nobody can deny that his prolific form is continuing. Calvert-Lewin’s converted penalty took his tally for this season to 13 across all competitions for club and country.

His strike was the final goal in the 3-0 thrashing of Ireland, offering a boost in confidence to Gareth Southgate’s men as they look ahead to Nations League fixtures against Belgium and Iceland.

Another game, another goal – such is the life of Dominic Calvert-Lewin at present. It’s little wonder that Alan Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time leading marksman, remarked of the 23-year-old: “He’ll keep scoring goals”.

Evertonians will surely be salivating at the prospect of more goals for the young striker as his prolific form continues. His form could be a much-needed boost as Everton look to end a run of three straight defeats after the international break.
