New Everton signing Gerard Deulofeu could miss the start of the 2015/16 season after injuring his hamstring in Saturday’s game against Arsenal.
Former Barcelona star Deulofeu, 21, is now set for a scan to determine the extent of the injury, with club sources worried that the Catalan winger has sustained a grade two tear that would put the newly acquired talent out for a period of between 4-6 weeks.
News of Deulofeu’s injury comes as a massive blow to the Goodison Park club, who remain short in wide positions after the departure of former loanee Christian Atsu.
The £4.2 million addition has featured three times since his return to Merseyside, but now looks on course to miss the Blues’ tour of Scotland, as well as further games against Leeds United and Villarreal.
In the likely event of a grade two diagnosis, it seems doubtful that Deulofeu will be ready to start the new campaign, with Everton’s season opener against Watford little over two weeks away.
