Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu has suggested that the Toffees could play their football in Spain, given their style.
Deulofeu, who returned to Goodison Park in June, announced the move in style.
In two years, the winger went from Barcelona, to Everton, to Barcelona, to Sevilla, to Barcelona and back to Everton. Second time around, there was a clause included in the Spanish international’s contract when he made the switch to Goodison Park again.
It was confirmed by Roberto Martinez that he’s been watching the winger since he was 16, and was constantly ‘pestering’ Barcelona with a possible loan deal.
Speaking to the Guardian, Deulofeu said:
Roberto’s always had faith in me. I have to work hard, I know that, but I’m very happy to be back. I was convinced things would go well with him.
When you come out to the [Z Cars] theme, it’s lovely. The supporters have been fantastic, from the first season. I want to play well for them.
Speaking about the style of play that Everton possess, Deulofeu went on to add:
Everton’s a historic club, really English, and it’s vital to keep that identity, but we’re not so English in style: we could play in Spain. Roberto gives us the confidence to play.
The 21-year-old will be hoping that Everton can bring their stylish game to the Goodison Park pitch on Saturday, when they host Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United.
