Was his tackle idiotic? Definitely.
Should he have been sent off? Without a doubt?
Does he deserve all the stick he’s getting? Personally, I don’t think so.
Ramiro Funes Mori may have thrown away his chance of playing at Wembley in the F.A Cup semi final, but at least he showed frustration, he showed he cared.
So many of Everton’s players last night were completely anonymous. This is a Merseyside Derby we’re talking about here, always one of the biggest games of the year for both clubs and our players simply were not up for it. If an Everton player can’t motivate himself for a game against our arch rivals does he even deserve to pull on the blue jersey?
His tackle was a complete and utter horror show and 100% warranted a red card, but at least the frustration actually got to him. How many players were simply swanning around the field uninterested? I’ll tell you; the majority of them. Mirallas showed that he’s a mercenary, Oviedo was at sea all game and John Stones had to be taken off as he was ‘sick’. I’ll tell you one thing; watching him trying to defend made me sick. This is Liverpool we’re playing, show some heart.
Liverpool are by no means world beaters but their players care about the club, they play for one another and they play for the jersey. Ours don’t.
When writing about Funes Mori, I simply can’t avoid the whole grabbing the crest issue. For one, I say fair play to him. He’s showed passion all year and this is just another occasion. I’ve seen many Blues after the game slating Funes Mori for this, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I can understand why he done it. For many, it seemed as if he was celebrating smashing Origi but what I got from it was that he was showing the fans that he cared, that even though he was putting in a shocker of a challenge and an even bigger shocker of a performance, he understood what the fans were going through and was thanking them for their support. I may be completely wrong but this is what I took from the incident.
One things for certain, we’ll miss Ramiro Funes Mori at Wembley but what’s even more problematic is that the rest of the squad don’t share his passion for the club, for the fans and for the jersey.
