Colorado Rapids are attempting to entice the American goalkeeper – Tim Howard – one of their countries greatest ever footballers, to pastures new and join them in the MLS ahead of the new season.
This would, however, also see Howard return to the league where he first began to make a name for himself, where he played for the MetroStars before Sir Alex Ferguson signed him for Manchester United, in a period where he was desperately trying to fill the void left by Peter Schmeichel.

Whether or not Roberto Martinez would want his goalkeeper to leave, however, is a different story. Indeed, Howard has already worn the gloves in every single league game this season, with his counterpart, Joel Robles, featuring in the cup competitions.
Whilst the defence has been an issue at times this season, Roberto Martinez has claimed that:
I value his [Tim Howards’] experience a lot, even more than the moment of form you can have on the pitch sometimes.

Perhaps there will come a time when Robles will have to play in the league, but it does seem unlikely that Howard will be returning to the MLS, at least not just yet.
