Everton have been handed a potential transfer boost to their hopes of securing a deal for PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo, with whom the Toffees were linked during the summer.
What’s the news?
According to a recent report from Voetbal International (via Soccernews), the Eredivisie club could be forced to sell the attacker to help alleviate their current financial issues.
Having made 149 appearances for PSV’s first team, the 23-year-old has found the net 52 times and delivered 42 assists in the process.
Gakpo’s performances this season have not only proved why Everton should have done more to sign him in the summer, but also why they should do all that they can to try and bring him to Goodison Park at the earliest opportunity.
Everton must take advantage
In 14 appearances across all competitions in 2022/23, the winger has scored 10 goals and supplied nine assists for his team-mates.
In the Eredivisie, the Dutchman has racked up more shots at goal (33) and shots on target (18) than any other player in the division. He also has the third-highest number of crosses in the league (67) and the highest average of key passes per game (4.3).
The winger’s overall performances in the Dutch top flight have earned him a frighteningly good season rating of 8.77/10 from WhoScored, which leaves Lionel Messi (8.86/10) as the only player from the top five European leagues with a higher rating than him.
Hailed as an “outstanding” player by journalist Josh Bunting, it’s safe to say that if the Toffees were able to secure a deal to sign the winger in the upcoming January transfer window or next summer, it would be a massive coup for Frank Lampard.
We feel that the Merseyside club should do all that they can to bring the Dutch wizard to Goodison Park and hope that he can duly translate the attacking form he has delivered this season to Everton.
