Chelsea coach backs Everton star to succeed having scouted him previously

Chelsea coach Eddie Newton has backed Cenk Tosun to shine at Everton having scouted him for the Blues previously, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The Toffees signed Tosun for a fee quoted to be around £25m from Besiktas in the January transfer window but he is yet to hit the ground running. Tosun hasn’t opened his goalscoring account for Everton yet and has seen his chances in the first-team limited.

However Newton, who is evidently a big admirer of Tosun’s abilities, feels he will need time to adapt.

He is a very good player, I watched him at Besiktas and was impressed. In football you rarely sign a player and expect immediate results, especially in January. He will need time.

The Turkish international forward enjoyed an excellent first half to the season in his homeland. He was in prolific form for Besiktas in both the league and in the Champions League group stages.

Tosun will need to work hard for his place in the starting line-up under Sam Allardyce, though, with Oumar Niasse currently in a decent spell of form.

Newton feels Tosun will need a fair chance to acclimatise to his new surroundings.

The Premier League is the fastest in the world and it takes time to adjust. Cenk is settling in and adapting. I really think he is going to do well in England but needs to be given a chance and time to settle in first.

Everton have lacked quality in attacking situations throughout the course of the season but added Tosun and Theo Walcott to the ranks in January. Allardyce will hope that the pair can combine to help the Toffees achieve
